Welcome.

The 2011/2012 looks to be an exciting year for cbudesign. We have been blessed with the ability to offer more scholarships this year. If an effort to make to the cbudesign experience more exciting for you we would like to offer you the chance to apply for scholarship through a program in which you will be to sign up for tasks. Sure, we would love to give it away, but we would like to inspire you to help others with their own experience by getting involved with us. You have proven yourselves to be a very creative group and we would like to display your talents and have you onboard with some of operations of the program.

To that end, we are proposing to you an application for scholarship with several opportunities for you to get involved. The opportunities are described and enclosed in this document along with an application. We are looking for leaders, people who will take the lead, not need their hands held, nor will they fall away. We want specific commitments and have awarded opportunities according to the level of time and effort involved.

Successful candidates will show through their application a level of commitment and creativity whether via portfolio and/or ideas proposed. You may only apply for five (5) opportunities so choose those in which you are uniquely qualified for. PLEASE FILL OUT A SEPARATE APPLICATION FOR EACH POSITION YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

Provisions.

The scholarship term or task must be fulfilled to the satisfaction of the faculty of cbudesign or the student forfeits their scholarship award. A document specifying the conditions of the scholarship will be signed beforehand.

cbudesign scholarship award opportunities

$500 FORM (The cbudesign student practicum)

This scholarship is awarded to the five (5 @$500) applicants who will be accepted to the elite student venture thru portfolio review to work on special projects for the year. The students will commit to working outside of class on projects that may include working with outside clients as a team, working with the faculty on special projects and designing collateral for special on-campus events in the design program. The student will agree and complete the tasks and participation requirements to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

How to apply:

2. Submit an online portfolio or pdf consisting of a minimum of 5, 10 max,  pieces of original design, video, photography, fine art, web design, writing and any other creative skills you may add to the dynamic of the group.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded entry into this elite student group called FORM.

$1,000 The Christopher Laurie Memorial Web Design Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will maintain galleries, posts and content to the direction of the faculty of the design department. This student will work on the implementation of the site in the initial build out of the site under the supervision and teamwork of the faculty and contracted vendor. The student will post at least one story a week while the site is up between September 1 and May 1, 2012. The scholarship is named after Christopher Laurie who was a very good Flash designer and inspired the faculty thru his talent and friendship. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

$1000 Studio Manager

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will maintain and keep The Loft and The Annex clean and supplies available. The applicant will work with the design faculty. This applicant will also work with the Lab Workers and be responsible for the checking in and out of the camera equipment. The goal is to have The Loft look great any time of the day, make sure everything is functioning properly and make sure our equipment is properly accounted for and maintained. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

How to apply:

1. Fill out and specify appropriate opportunity on an application

2. Submit your semester schedule and work schedule to prove you will be available to help with the Loft and equipment. A student who lives on campus would be preferred.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded scholarship and what measures they will take to successfully function as Studio Manager.

$1000 Video Director

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will produce a series of four (4) :30 spots highlighting the four concentrations of design, photography, web and video/animation under the direction of faculty. The student will also produce a :30 spot which is a broader piece for the program. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term. Deadlines will be set for the completion of the videos sometime early in the fall semester.

$500 Photo Prop Producer

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will maintain, sew and acquire photo props and backdrops at the direction of the design faculty. Applicant must be able to sew fabrics into 9×9 panels with pole pockets and/or work on props as needs arise during the year. This person must be handy with small fixes etc. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

props A student who can sew is mandatory.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded scholarship and what measures they will take to successfully function as Prop Producer.

$500 Twitter Maintenance

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will maintain and grow the cbudesign presence on twitter by twice a week posting content and promoting the account. The applicant will work with the design faculty on content. The goal is to get the account to 500 followers. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

$500 Facebook Maintenance

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will maintain and grow the cbudesign presence on Facebook by twice a week posting content and promoting the account. The applicant will work with the design faculty on content. The goal is to get the account to 1000 followers. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

2. Submit your semester schedule to prove you will be available to help with Facebook.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded scholarship and what measures you will take to successfully function as Facebook manager.

$500 Recruit Lead

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will distribute posters and materials to 10 local high schools and 4 high school ministries and work with admissions on making sure they have what they need to promote the program. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

2. Candidate must be able to drive and be able to follow thru with a plan of action.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded.

4. Detail a plan or suggestions on how to successfully recruit to high school students.

$500 Interior Design

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who presents the best ideas for interior/exterior wall colors, decoration, and other aspects of the spaces used by the design department. The student will be tasked to paint the walls with the help of faculty and other kind students. Art in frames and table decor will also be the responsibility of this person. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

3. Write in 100 words why they should be awarded scholarship and what suggestions you have for the Loft’s interiors.

$500 Event Coordinator

This scholarship is awarded to the applicant who will help the design faculty with preparation, vendor interface and tasks pertaining to events help by the department. The event coordinator will host smaller events such as “movie night” and help with events such as the two senior shows, the design and film competitions and two speaking engagements. The student will agree and complete the task to the department’s satisfaction or forfeit the scholarship at the end of the term.

Community Projects (4) $250

Four $250 grants will be awarded to students who propose winning ideas to help promote design in the community, off/on campus. The winning ideas may not necessarily promote cbudesign, just good design.

Need

If you have special circumstances or needs you may write 300 words to tell us about your needs. There are some funds set aside but there is no guarantee the funds will be available. You may also propose a service or idea to help the program out too.
